Most of the purveyors of vanilla on the internet and outside of the vanilla coast in Mada are 3 to 6 levels down the chain. MV FCFF-rated vanilla is at the bottom of that chain and up, and we are actually growing it ourselves in Madagascar at 2 of our own farms, deploying direct staff and supervision on the ground since long before the boom and bust cycles (2 of them in fact spanning over a decade.) We cultivate, collect, and cure, and deal with all of the documents and delivery ourselves.
True Madagascar Grade A vanilla beans (there is NO actual body or organization or accreditor for grading, so all companies just claim and name their beans as "A,") are dark black-brown, aromatic and creamy in fragrance and appearance, with raisiny oily (natural vanilla oils and vanillin from the 200+ natural interlocking compounds that make the real vanilla smell) whole without any or many split ends at the peak of the pod, long and not wet or juicy (excess moisture has been sun cured out to concentrate taste,) and 13 or 14 cm and above, (15-17 is an average in the industry but goes up to 22cm.) Look for all of these features in true-to-name Grade A vanilla beans.

Planifolia species, current/latest harvest year. Cured in the traditional Madagascar method (not industrially or by machinery or young cut and fast-curing rack machines, but by human hands and sun in SAVA and Maroansetra-Mananara's southern coast off Masoala.) Beautiful textured fragrant black whole bean pods, 13-22cm per bean (median trends 15-17cm,) 30% general median moisture (28-34%,) "gourmet" typology, and 165-225 beans per pound (we sell by weight unless you make a special request by bean packs.) FDA-certified, USDA and Ecocert Organic, staff and farm hands paid above FFL fair trade prices. NFN (Black Whole Beans "Non Fendue Noire.") Shelf life if stored in cool dark dry place, in anaerobic tin cans or vacuum packs, is up to 2 years (in practice, longer, but in labeling and advisories, 2 years.) Do not freeze or refrigerate. Madagascar Origin only. Not stolen or "swapped in shipping" beans and pods checked against lots, tracking tattoos, and triage sets.
The vanilla is vegan, pure 100%, and natural, pesticide-free, phenol or spray-free, GMO-free, and carries no known allergens or toxins. We do not cut any rainforest and reforest the rim of each side of Masoala Park, and in fact manage trips into the Masoala Rainforest and lemur-lived lodges on both sides of the rim of Madagascar's oldest rainforest. Crystallized vanillin (like small off-white shiny diamonds or glass-shaped vanilla gems) can crystallize on the outside of the vanilla in cold or certain conditions, like THC crystals on cannabis plants, but if you'd like decorative vanilla (vanillin) crystals, these are also upon special request and triage and need a premium price adjustment as we also collect these out of each lot.
If you'd like red vanilla (rouge American or rouge European,) this is also by special request. If you'd like cuts or ground powder (vanilla powder,) this is also by special request.

Shelf life is about 1-2 years if stored properly. Store in a dry, dark, and cold place. If mold develops then it hasn’t been stored properly, so discard and replace. There are no known allergens or Aflatoxins in vanilla, and they are grown and cured organically and naturally. There is no gluten.
